What you're trying to book

Beniya Mukayu sits on a hill overlooking Yamashiro Onsen in Ishikawa Prefecture, about two and a half hours from Kyoto by train. Sixteen rooms, an in-house bamboo grove, two hot-spring baths (one private, one with a view of the Yakushiyama foothills), and a kaiseki menu that leans on Noto peninsula seafood in winter and Kaga vegetables in summer.

Relais & Châteaux member since 2013. Expect ¥80,000 to ¥150,000 per person per night with dinner and breakfast. Late autumn (snow crab, November to March) and cherry blossom are the most-booked periods.

How reservations actually work

Unlike most traditional ryokan, Beniya Mukayu has full English support. You can book through their official site at mukayu.com/english, by email, or by phone at +81-761-77-1340 — the reservations desk will switch to English if asked.

The Relais & Châteaux booking portal also works, and is useful if you want to bundle with other R&C properties. Room preferences (bath type, floor, view) are usually honoured if you email in advance.

If you want Moshi Moshi to book it for you

Honestly — Beniya Mukayu is the one ryokan on our list you can probably book yourself. Where we help: you want a specific room category that isn't online, you have dietary restrictions that need nuance in Japanese, or you want a seasonal menu preview before committing.

For a standard room on standard dates, start with their English site. We're here for the harder conversations.
