What you're trying to book

The Asaba family has operated a ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen since 1484 — eighteen generations. Relais & Châteaux member since 1989. The centrepiece of the property is a Noh stage set on a pond surrounded by maple trees; occasional live performances are part of the 'Asaba Cultural Journey' weekends.

All rooms have private hot-spring baths. Shuzenji itself is in Izu, Shizuoka — about two hours from Tokyo by shinkansen and local train.

How reservations actually work

Full English website with booking form. Direct phone at +81-558-72-7000 also works. Relais & Châteaux portal is an option for multi-stop trips.

For weekend stays coinciding with Noh performances, bookings open further in advance and fill fast. Cherry blossom and autumn leaves are the other peaks.

If you want Moshi Moshi to book it for you

Asaba is generally self-bookable through the English site. Moshi Moshi is useful for: timing a stay around a Noh performance (the schedule isn't always published), specific room preferences, or customized meals.

We call in Japanese, confirm room and menu, send English confirmation.
